In order to qualify for Registration as under the Act, an individual must complete a medical education program approved by the IL Division of Professional Regulation and maintain current certification by ONE of the following:
- American Board of Surgical Assistants;
- National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting; OR
- National Surgical Assistant Association
All the professional licensing Acts in Illinois, sunset (or expire) every 10 years. The Registered Surgical Assistant and Registered Surgical Technologist Act was set to expire December 31, 2013. However ISAA lobbied for the successful passage of HB 533, which extended the RSA/RST Title Protection Act until 2023. Special thanks to Sen. Iris Martinez (D-Chicago), Sen. INSURANCE RECOUPMENT LEGISLATION
